Sea of Memories edition by Fiona Valpy Literature Fiction eBooks

First of all, Fiona Valpy's writing is positively lyrical. Her voice and tone are so soothing and melodious that I felt I was there with Kendra and Ella, both in the nursing home, Edinburgh, and the Ile de Re.

Sea of Memories is a beautiful love story. It is the love story between Ella and Angus, Ella and Christophe and ultimately between Kendra and Dan. It is also a love story between Ella and Kendra.

Ella asks her granddaughter, Kendra, to write her story before she becomes so frail that she can no longer remember it. Through tapes, letters and conversations, Kendra learns the story of Ella and Christophe, and in doing so,learns who her grandmother really was, something we would all be privileged to have been able to do.

Without giving too much away, Ella's story teaches us that lasting love is the one that counts and second chances are often offered, just maybe not the one you thought you wanted.

Sea of Memories edition by Fiona Valpy Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Once again Fiona Valpy's writing creates an atmosphere that puts you right there. I could hear the ocean and feel the warm breeze. Here characters are so real, you want to have lunch with them by the seashore.
But, I chose this one because it was one of the least expensive on my wish list. Don't know what tempted me to put it on my wish list, but I am very glad I did. This was well-written and kept me reading until all hours of the night as I kept wanting to see what happened next. The characters were engaging - I connected with all of them and cared what happened to them. Going back and forth through the years wasn't a problem at all, and I could easily enter into each story line and pick up where it left off, connect it with the current story line and make the whole story cohesive with questions answered.
I loved this book, cried many, many tears, and will read all other books by Fiona Valpy.
Absolutely beautiful. Characters you connect to, locations you long to see, descriptions that bring tears to your eyes. Every word paints a vivid picture.
I just finished reading "Sea of Memories" and loved it. I could not put it down. It was a little slow moving at first, but once it picked up a quicker pace, the story just got better and better.

"Sea of Memories" was my introduction to the author, Fiona Valpy. I am so glad to have "met" her and look forward to meeting her again through her wonderful stories. I like her style of writing. I felt like I was there at every turn. I was sitting in the nursing home with Ella and Kendra. I was in France on the Ile de Re in the lovely house there and I went sailing on Bijou and my heart pounded when I was on a mission with Ella and got lost. Throughout this beautiful story, I experienced so many different emotions - joy, sadness, laughter, love, anger (not too much anger) just a sprinkle here and there. I experienced the heartbreak of war, the joy of friendship, the joy of falling in love for the first time and the power of that first kiss, that first love.

I love stories that take place in Scotland and in France. I got to visit both places, I especially loved being on the island in France and enjoying the sun, the sea, the fine wine, the pastries and the salted caramel ice cream and the French baguette, the French people, the art, the freedom of living by the sea and being outdoors.

It is such a beautiful story and the ending gave me hope for Kendra and Dan and hope for Finn when they embark upon a new way of life.

I am left wondering about Rhona and her reaction to the beautiful blue "kintsukuroi" bowl. I wonder how Rhona reacted to the story told by Ella. I wonder, did she forgive? Did she understand? I would love to know Rhona's thoughts and would love to be there to hear the conversation between Rhona and Kendra.

I normally do not read romance stories as most are so predictable and some can be trashy but this story is far from predictable and certainly not trashy. I highly recommend it and can't wait to read the next Fiona Valpy book.
This is one of the best books I've ever read!!! (And I have read hundreds over the years.) The author has woven together a beautiful tale about various types of love. The main character's granddaughter serves as the story's narrator as she pieces together her dying grandmother's life. As the books progresses, the reader begins to put the puzzle together, but not until the final chapter do all the pieces come together. This story will have you laughing sometimes, weeping at other points, and feeling like you see and know the main players. At times, you'll laugh and smile; at other points you'll find yourself sad, but throughout the entire story the beauty and joy of various types of love will enchant you and make you think. Definitely geared for an adult female audience, and anyone who has ever loved another will be captivated by the story.
The one thing I did like about this book, was that it has a strong female lead character! I did, however, find the story a bit 'hard' to get 'my teeth into' initially but it did pick-up-the-pace and the storyline got very interesting. Action, adventure, love found, love lost, love found .. but not in the normal way or romance novels. This was better. Set in England and in France spanning the years of pre-war and in wartime, ending in post-war times, the lives of 2 families, bonded by old and new friendships. I became invested in the lives of the four main characters, wanting to see how they all eventually came to live a life entwined in what was a dramatic time in our history. A better story than I first thought.
I can't remember the last time a book made me cry, but this one did. I don't think younger generations appreciate what it was like to live through WWII, especially in Great Britain and France. Ms. Valpy makes you feel as though you are there in the story with her characters. You feel their angst, their heartbreak, their joy, their every emotion. It was a roller coaster ride that I didn't want to get off of. I couldn't put it down. I read it straight through in a day.
